switchback

GNOME Background Randomizer

switchback is a perl script that can (in real-time) randomize the background used in the GNOME window manager.

Currently, switchback contains in the script a list of directories that are to be searched, and a list of valid image file extensions. It searches through the directories, identifies all the images, and picks one to display. If asked, switchback will remain running and change the background at a frequency defined by the user when run.

switchback is in active development. The following features are currently being constructed (developers, see the CVS repository if interested):

switchback has been tested to work on Red Hat 9, Fedora Core 2, and Debian Sarge. In theory, it should work with any system that has proper installations of perl and GNOME version 2 or newer.
